Project Summary:
This project is a personal/ custom project that was made together with my professor. I took his class in the spring and took it again in the Fall of 2021. We took this opportunity to learn more about portfolio building. This project is done by myself remotely since I am the only one who took his class twice. The rest of the class has its own set of assignments and group members.
Made For: Academic Project
Target Audience: Mobile Banking users 14-35 years old M61%, F39%
Time Frame: August 2021 - December 2021 (Fall Semester)
Role: UX/UI Designer, Researcher

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
After conducting interviews, I compiled the data gathered and grouped them into what users liked and disliked about the app. I use this data as a guide to help me redesign the new Venmo with features users would like to be implemented.
Interview Discoveries:
Scope and Constraints
Venmo is an app that lets users quickly and easily transfer money between peers. Venmo has a really good UX/UI design, this helps the majority of users get used to the app quickly. Venmo users
are able to send and request money through the app, and they can also choose to hide or make the transactions public.
App constraints as of now are that the money received is deposited to their Venmo bank, which is not a direct transaction to their bank account. Users are able to transfer their money from Venmo to
their bank by transferring between accounts. Money transfer takes around 1-3 business days.
Another constraint of the app is that Venmo users sometimes forget to private their transactions, they are unable to hide the public transaction once it has been sent.

Design Phase
Persona Creation
I created a user persona to represent the interviewees and help keep me keep track of what I need to prioritize when designing.

High-Fidelity Digital Wireframes
I took a lot of inspiration from the original design of the app when I start designing the app. I changed the design after realizing I did not like the design I made, it felt weird and too similar to the original. This encouraged me to redesign it into the 3rd screen. I took inspiration from the original and added a few features that I think would be great to have. I also kept in mind to not change the original design too drastically, otherwise, users will be unfamiliar with the new design.
The redesign process will be explained more in detail below.

Bar code:             Show your bar code for others to scan

Wallet:                 Switch cards to use in Venmo

Contacts:           Add/ select friends

Me:                       Profile, see transaction history, etc.

I wanted to add more features to Venmo because it felt like it was missing a few features. The top side of the screen is a quick way to access these features without having to think a lot about how to find them. I think the home page is where users will find most of their needs. I changed where buttons are placed like the scan, barcode, card, and 2 new features: Schedule and Split.
Research shows that users scan pages from left to right like the shape of an F and do not really pay attention while looking at a screen/page. Top being most important to less important at the bottom page. The reason why I made icons with texts below is to help users understand better, and how the design was based on.
User Feedback + Iteration
While interviewing, one of the users mentioned that it would be nice to have a split bill feature. This is a problem for users, so I came up with a solution for this, I designed and added a “split” feature in the app to help with the problem users are facing.
Split is a feature where users can easily split bills with others and send/request the money.

Split Feature

In the middle of designing the screens, I thought of useful features I’m sure to have use of it. I wanted to implement a scheduled payment system in Venmo. The feature lets users do an automatic, recurring payment. This ensures that users don’t have to repeat their payments every time.
